Hatcheries are used for the development and study of larval stages of some marine invertebrates (e.g., echinoderms) in a controlled, species-specific environment.

They consist of 6 truncated-conical tanks with a volume of 150L inside a climate-controlled chamber.

The tanks are equipped with a continuous/closed/RAS water recirculation system with drum filters.

The water treatment system consists of 6 steps:

  • sand filter
  • protein skimmer (skimmer)
  • ozone treatment
  • battery of cartridge filters (50 - 5 microns)
  • filter with activated carbon
  • UV lamp
