Clam Tanks are special tanks used for pre-fattening experiments on Ruditapes decussatus clam seed (native or indigenous clam) and Ruditapes philippinarum clam seed, obtained from facilities specialising in controlled reproduction (known as hatcheries).
The tanks, rectangular and approximately 3.5 metres long, are made of fibreglass and have a central water distribution channel leading to the sieves, with an active upward water flow (upwelling) drawn directly from the plankton-rich Santa Gilla lagoon or, if necessary, from a recirculation system for specific experiments.
The tanks house 12 PVC sieves with 800- and 1000-micron micrometric mesh. An OXYWIFI2 IP65 system control unit monitors the unit with an optical oxygen/temperature probe and a digital pH probe.
